The Steam Trading Card Beta has been an interesting and so far seemingly successful addition to the Steam world. This addition provides players with Trading Cards for their play time of specific games. There are some exceptions to this and those are the Free2Play games such as Team Fortress 2 where you need to spend 9$ in game per card. If you want to gain drops.
The Player can gain via those random drops half of a games deck. After that you rely on trading with other players or buying via the community market place from other players.
Once you have a full deck you can make them into a badge giving you experience points and leveling your steam profile up. Those level ups increase your odds on receiving Booster Packs 20% per ten levels starting and each also grant access to visual profile improvements such as showcases for your badges and game collection. You also gain experience points for any badges you already gained throughout their past sales events or due to time of being signed up to Steam as well as number of games owned.
Booster Packs were recently added by Valve and they give you three cards of a given game deck.
There are of course foil cards as well which are quite rare.
Now those cards can also be traded with other players either directly for other trading cards or items from games from such games as TF2 or you can sell them on the community market which means you can make a little money and maybe subsidies some games. However any money made on steam stays there you can not transfer it out.
