GOG.com a online shop that offers deep sales right now in their NoDRM summer sale preempting Steams summer sale offers another interesting service.
That service offers you as the subscriber free older games just for having an account. What kind of games am I talking about here?
Well here is the list:
- Torchlight
- Teen Agent
- Tyrian 2000
- Lure of the Temptress
- Beneath a Steel Sky
- Dragonsqhere
- Ultima IV
- Warsow
- Ultima Savage Empire
- Ultima Worlds of Adventure
- Treasure Adventure Game
The reason why this list is curious is that these are all games that you have to pay for although most of them a quite old. While Valve banks on a selection of Free2Play Games covering most Genres with a few of them.
GOG has clearly decided to go with games that you either pay for upfront or not at all where there are no equipment pieces that you can buy from the publisher or better XP/Gold bonuses.
Something that many Gamers seem to have hated.
GOG.com seems to be aiming for people who buy games by offering deep sales ahead of Steam as well as giving away older titles for guessing what lists are there for or providing free copies of older games.
Which does remove it a bit from a most other online stores leaving it to fight with EAs Origin and GameFly. However GOG does something else that is curious at that point they focus on PC titles and specifically no DRM they are not endeavouring to support the various DRMs that many other game retailers accepted and worked into their systems. But specifically oppose selling games with DRM.
This does limit their selection to some degree and it is smaller then that of most online stores however it is still a very solid little game selection and definitely worth a look.
